Responsible for protecting and enhancing the reputation of Arsenal Football Club with all key stakeholders and driving the ‘Arsenal story.’ Responsible for providing strategic counsel and advice on reputation management, creating proactive internal and external communication plans, managing the overall football media operation and managing Club personnel appearances and engagements.
To lead the planning, development and delivery of Corporate and Commercial PR projects. To protect the Club’s image and brand values, and those of individual stakeholders at the Club, through proactive and reactive media relations and to ensure the smooth running of the Club’s football media operation with the Head of Football Media.
Develop & deliver communication plan to position Club in line with vision & values domestically and internationally and deliver Club and partner goals
Develop proactive programmes using effective traditional and social media channels to position senior executives. This includes a media plan, speaker opportunities, trade shows etc
Oversee delivery and development of communications plans to support Partnership activity and act as primary PR contact for partners
Act as the first point of contact for all Commercial media inquiries
Oversee delivery and development of communications plans to support commercial and marketing activity e.g. Memberships, Stadium Tours, Retail Activity, Junior Gunners, Hospitality, Events etc
Act as effective line manager for Communications Manager
Set clear targets and develop effective measurement and evaluation
Develop proactive opportunities to inform internal and external stakeholders of the Club’s ongoing fan/ticketing initiatives to include bloggers, sports media and trade/commentators
Manage external media requests for access to players and utilise media contacts to protect and enhance the Club and its stakeholders, and build the Club’s profile externally with key target markets including both domestic and international media inline with the global extension of the Club’s activities.
Manage player access across internal and external stakeholders via Player Access Tool, and ensure fair distribution of activities across the squad
Develop plan with Head of Communications (Football) to effectively engage players and their agents in pro-active comms activity
Work matchdays on a rota, (to include all Europe fixtures). Matchday responsibilities include coordinating player interviews post match and providing PR/comms support for the TV schedule on the day as well as dealing with media enquiries
Regularly attend Arsenal’s Training Ground to oversee first team interviews, and coordinate future interview requests from international and national media.
Support delivery of effective 24/7 press office service to media acting as first point of contact on reactive issues relating to players
Actively monitor personal performance at work, looking to consistently contribute to personal objectives and team goals, and focus own activities accordingly
Take a proactive approach to personal development in line with identified development needs and career ambitions
Undertake other tasks that from time to time may be allocated to the jobholder that are appropriate to the level/grade of the job
Comply with all relevant AFC policy and procedures, including those relating to Health and Safety, Data Protection, IT usage etc.
MAIN JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION
Educated to minimum degree level preferably in a communications degree or post-graduate PR training
Significant experience in a busy communications office and creative PR agency – preferably working in the sport or commercial sector. Must have contacts in the media industry and sports in general, possibly News and Trade.
A second language is desirable but not essential
Line Management Experience and or leadership skills to motivate a high performing team
Job holder must have ability to direct and operationally work within and manage teams of disparate stakeholders and have strong project management skills.
Must be able to motivate and engage staff in projects and events
Job holder must have excellent communications and team working skills
Ability to demonstrate experience/interest/knowledge of the sport and football industry, as well as an understanding of the commercial sector
A wide understanding of local/national/international media and strong understanding of social media channels and tactics
Ability to present and communicate information in a confident manner – able to create compelling content
Ability to demonstrate precision, flair and creativity in all aspects of work
Ability to plan and prioritise activities and demonstrate operational problem identification and solving skills
Standard professional level IT skills.
